At our oldest site, everything revolves around axles, steering units, battery systems, tool making and mechanical engineering.
Braunschweig is where the very first Volkswagen AG factory was established. Today it is synonymous with advanced technical expertise in innovative battery systems and state-of-the-art electromechanical steering systems. The site is one of the biggest world-leading producers of chassis components. Production and development take place under one roof.
The factory was established as a ‘Vorwerk’ (outworks) in the north of the city in 1938. It now has around 7,000 employees and their expertise makes the site an important fountain of ideas and a key system supplier in the Group. Its diverse range of production methods means that the Braunschweig factory is an all-round talent in the Volkswagen production network. Visitors on our tours can experience the production of battery systems, steering units, axles and plastic parts up-close and gain an insight into tool making and mechanical engineering.
Visits can be held by arrangement on all production days from Monday to Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The visit lasts around two hours. The maximum group size is 30 people. Please book well in advance if you wish to visit the Braunschweig factory with a group. Children under the age of 10 are unfortunately not able to take part in a factory visit.
All tours of the production areas will be on foot. Therefore, sturdy shoes are mandatory.
Photography and filming is prohibited on the entire factory site. Camera phones and audio recordings are also prohibited.
We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary and to cancel the FactoryTour for operational reasons at short notice. We do not accept any liability for any loss incurred as a result of this.
